FREEEDOM AUTOSPORTS AND KINETIC SUNBELT ENGINES PODIUMS AT HOMESTEAD KONI CHALLENGE

Team mates Tom Long and Derek Whitis achieved their first KONI Challenge podium at last weekend's Miami-Homestead Speedway in the KONI Challenge ST class for the 2009 season.
Whitis qualified the car 11th in a very tightly fought qualifying session and began the race well, climbing to 4th place before handing over to Long on lap 43. Long then worked his magic by hustling the little Mazda MX5 up to the top and battled the Compass 360 Honda Civic car driven my Miller and Pobst. The two swapped top spot until finally being edged out with the skinniest of margins – 3 tenths of a second to finish 2nd.
Whitis stated he was disappointed they could not seal victory for the top spot, but was delighted with the car's performance and reliability.
Jim Thompson, Kinetic Sunbelt Engine owner, was excited about the result and commented that it was great to see Derek and Tom do so well against the tough opposition.
"Derek has certainly worked hard for this and was just pipped at the post by the Civic .", said Thompson. "Our congratulations go to the team who has worked so hard for this result, we're very happy for them."
