Kinetic Motorsports makes its 2008 debut at Daytona this week. The Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series is Grand-Am's showcase for the latest in international and American-made high performance sports cars, coupes and sedans. With major modifications permitted only in the area of safety, the KONI Challenge Series is home to the same cars seen on streets and highways around the world. Nearly 100 cars are expected to take the green flag.
Looking for victory in one of the season's biggest races and with a full driver line-up, the Kinetic team is ready to do battle at the Fresh from Florida 200, Grand-Am KONI Challenge. It will be a duel class race for Kinetics at the 3.56 mile Daytona International Speedway racing in both the Grand Sport (GS) and Street Turner (ST) classes. Pro driver and co-owner Nic Jonsson is pairing up with driver Chapman Ducote of Miami Beach, FL. in the #79 in the Total Merchant Services/ Cerulean Jet/ KRIEGER/ KROME sponsored BMW M3 Couple (GS). In the #80 Prime Wholesalers/ RBR Construction sponsored BMW M3 Coupe (GS) will be drivers Rafael Betances and Manuel Soltero both hailing from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Competing in the ST class against 50 other racers will be Kinetic's co-owner Russell Smith and driver Lee Davis in the #33 BMW 330.
"I am so excited to be racing with my good friend Lee Davis.", said Smith. "We have great drivers, an excellent crew and driving Daytona is always a thrill. The entire weekend with our KONI Challenge race and Nic's race in the 24 hour Rolex series on Saturday makes for an exciting weekend."
The 3 hour race begins January 25th at 2:15pm and will be televised in two-hour episodes within one week of the race date, often during prime time on the motorsports network. The 2008 season-opener will air on SPEED Saturday, February 2 at 8 p.m. ET. Kinetics 11-race KONI Challenge Series calendar visits the best tracks across the country.
