Buford, GA - Fresh off a GS win at the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres in Canada, Kinetic Motorsports is looking for a repeat performance at New Jersey Motorsports Park this weekend in the Grand Am Koni Challenge Series. Kinetic will field three cars at NJMP's Thunderbolt Raceway.
Andy Lally, winner of the last two GS races, will co-drive in GS with Todd Lamb in the Maxwell Paper/Kinetic-Sunbelt Engines BMW M3. Lamb missed the GP3R race due to other obligations but returns to KONI competition focused on victory after finding immediate success with Kinetics in his first two GS starts at Watkins Glen and Barber Motorsports Park this season. For Lally the event is somewhat of a hometown race, as he grew up racing karts in New Jersey. Todd Lamb: "I'm happy that Kinetic got their first win at Trois Rivieres the team works hard and after the good runs we had earlier in the year I knew it was just a matter of time. Hopefully I will be a part of their second win, running with Andy this weekend. Jersey is a new track for everyone so it will be interesting to see who picks it up quickly and who struggles."
Driver Kevin Molloy, after missing the first part of the season due to health issues, makes his debut with Kinetic and will share driving duties in GS with pro driver, Nic Jonsson in the #79 Molloy Interiors sponsored BMW M3. Molloy's story is an inspirational one. The 37 year old was diagnosed six months ago with Small Cell Carcinoma. In February, Kevin was told his body was covered with tumors, which were attacking his heart, spine, lungs and liver. He was told his chances for survival were 10 percent. But Molloy, who started racing in 2004, fought the disease. His wife Erin was seven months pregnant with their son. Kevin endured aggressive chemo therapy, sometimes six hours straight, three times a week. His passion for racing is so strong that he returned to racing for an Enduro event at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Father's Day still while undergoing chemo treatments. Miraculously, Kevin is in remission and has the "all clear" from his doctors to go pursue his passion.
Kevin Molloy: "Racing is where I can put on my helmet and block out everything else; I can just be in that moment and focus solely on racing. I am very excited about my return to racing especially at this new track in Jersey where I was born. Many of my family and friends will be at the race to support me and I just can't wait to get back to what I love to do and that's race. Going forward, my intention is to finish out the rest of the season and I am really excited about the six-hour endurance race at VIR – that is my cup of tea. If I could race the entire six hours myself I would!"
Ed Hall (Kinetic Team Manager): "When we heard Kevin was diagnosed with cancer we were stunned, but we knew if anyone could recover from that it's him. We're obviously very happy he is able to get back in the car this season and we are confident he'll do just fine in the race,"
Nic Jonsson (Co-owner of Kinetics & pro-driver): "We can't wait to hit the track in Jersey with all of our clients and this will be an especially emotional and exciting one for Kevin. We are honored to be a part of his return to racing and his start in GS. We plan to give him a great, competitive race and we're thrilled to have him on our team."
Lee Davis returns with Kinetic Team Owner, Russell Smith in ST to drive the #33 Luna-C Racing/Kinetic Motorsports BMW 330i. The pair have been building experience throughout the year and continue to make progress every race of their rookie season.
Lee Davis: "Russell and I are looking forward to this first Koni event at New Jersey. With our limited experience in Koni, we feel this will even the playing field a bit for us and we're hoping for a season-high finish."
The race will air on SPEED Sunday, Sept 7th at 2pm EDT.
