January 20, 2009 – Buford, GA Kinetic Sunbelt Engines (KSE), a division of the Kinetic Motorsports, heads for Daytona International Speedway on Wednesday to kick off the 2009 season of the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge.
Owner, Chief Engine Designer and Builder, Jim Thompson, is excited to begin the race season after a few months away from the track. Thompson is quick to point out that the time away from racing was not in fact a break, but time well spent continuing the development of new and existing engine programs. The Sunbelt crew was busy building the BMW S65 B40 engine which will power Kinetic Motorsports new BMW M3 E92 V8 which was built from the ground up. Pro driver and Kinetic co-owner, Nic Jonsson and pro driver, Gunnar Jeannette will debut the #79 BMW in Daytona at the Fresh from Florida 200 this coming weekend.
"The start of 2009 is shaping up to be a banner year for Kinetic Sunbelt Engines as we continue to steadily grow the number of engines and teams we supply engines and track-side support to.", said Thompson. "In addition to building reliable, powerful engines; we provide the "at-track" support and tuning that is critical to extract the very maximum horsepower and torque in the environment that the engines will run. By constantly monitoring engine performance and statistical output throughout the weekend, we can stay on top of changing conditions and performance parameters."
In addition to supplying engines to its parent team, KSE also works closely with Freedom Autosports, who field three Mazda Miata's in the KONI ST races. Development of their "power program" has assisted in garnering several poles and multiple podiums in 2008. Flat-Out Motorsports will also continue utilizing KSE power plants for their ST racing season.
"We are growing by leaps and bounds.", said Thompson. "To further increase our bench of strength and range of skill sets, we are pleased to announce the addition of master engine tuner and race veteran, Ed Senf to supplement our staffing at the track. Ed brings 20 years of experience and knowledge that we will implement for our clients to help them further achieve their performance goals. We have worked together with Ed in the past and are excited to bring him onboard to complement our existing "first-class" services and outstanding crew of professional engine builders."
"We have a busy year ahead of us.", commented Senf. "With the introduction of new cars to the Grand-Am line up in the form of BMW, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro throughout the year, we'll have to remain on our toes to ensure our clients stay out in front."
