Kinetic drivers Marc-Antoine Camirand and Andy Lally started off what they hope to be a historic weekend at Le Circuit de Trois-Rivieres on Saturday morning. Racing in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge, the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres, Camirand earned the pole for the Grand Sport (GS) race, which will commence at 9:10 a.m. Sunday.
A resident of nearby St. Leonard d'Aston, Quebec, Camirand took the No. 79 Kinetic Motorsports BMW M3 to the top of the charts with a time of 1:11.365 (76.727 mph), and will pace the 21-car field to the green flag in hopes of becoming the all-time victory leader at the 1.521-mile track.
Marc-Antoine Camirand: "I think we have a really good car. I'm happy with how we qualified and to race with Kinetic Motorsports. We have a chance to win because my teammate Andy Lally is a really good driver too. The track was good this morning - a little bit cold."
"I think we have to bring a good car to Andy, take care of the brakes and stay away from accidents and I think we're going to be in good shape."
"This is a tough street course, it's tight and there are no room for mistakes. This is my home track, I live ½ an hour from the Trois Rivieres and my dad owns a BMW shop in the area so I am familiar with the M3's as well. Andy and I have the same driving style and both know the track. I think we are a perfect match and along with Kinetic Motorsports, I think we'll have the winning combination."
Andy Lally: ""I am really looking forward to the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres this weekend. What makes this one of the best races of the season is that it's a street circuit, which I love and the entire city comes out to support the event on this holiday weekend. This track is incredible and challenging, from the heat to the braking, you really need to have a successful race strategy. Marc did a great job qualifying on pole and has spent plenty of time at this track as well as myself. This will mark my 10th year racing at Trois-Rivieres and it's always a favorite of mine."
