Buford, Ga. - Kinetic
Motorsports and drivers Derek Skea and Dino Steiner took
part in the annual PBOC Winterfest at the world famous Sebring
International Raceway in Sebring, Fla. The motorsports division
of Kinetic Speed Shop was able to benefit from one of the
only warm spots on the United States map as recent cold fronts
had moved throughout the majority of the country. With the
weather cooperating, Skea and Steiner set out to tackle the
road course with the support of the Kinetic Motorsports crew.
Skea, who was at the track to compete in the grueling six-hour
enduro event, piloted his No. 151 Porsche GT3 along with
a co-driver from 3:00 pm into the night when the checkered
flag fell at 9:00 pm. Navigating the difficult track for
six hours and adjusting to the changing lighting conditions
is extremely difficult for any driver. The duo raced perfectly
and finished the event first in class and an incredible third
overall.
"The track was great," said Skea. "Racing
for the first time in the dark is like learning to
race all over again, I had an absolute blast! We had
some struggles, but you have to expect some in a 6-hour
race and in the end the Kinetic team all came together
and we were able to win the class and get 3rd overall.
I am certainly happy with the results and could not be
happier about the experience I gained as a whole."
For Steiner and driving coach Ian James, this trip was meant
to concentrate entirely on testing and car development in
preparation for the 2007 IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge which
runs in conjunction with select American Le Mans Series events.
Steiner, who finished second in overall points last season
in the IMSA Cup, did start the six-hour enduro and managed
to take the overall lead by Lap five. However as he was out
to test, it was determined that the chassis setup was optimal
for the shorter IMSA event at Sebring so Steiner entered
the garage to end his test weekend.

"After not racing for three months,
it was important to get behind the wheel again," said Steiner. "Working
with the boys was a fantastic pleasure for me and Ian.
The boys were working on very high professional level,
which gave me a great push and motivation to start the
new season. The car was top prepared and I was able to
get some quick times in from the beginning on. I think
we found a good baseline for the Sebring race. Thanks to
the guys, they did an excellent job. It feels great to
join a professional and highly motivated team like Kinetic."
Steiner's driving coach, James, was there to give pointers
and help with the car's setup. James who has extensive experience
with sports car racing was able to lend his expertise in
order to help Steiner and Kinetic prepare for the Sebring
event in March.
"We had a very constructive few days at Sebring setting the
car up to the new 2007 control tire," said James. It was
a pleasure to work with Kinetic team for the first time,
everyone did a great job and I look forward to working
with the team and Dino in 2007."
