Buford, Ga. - Kinetic
Speed Shop's motorsports division supported clients this
weekend at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham Ala. where
it was a scorching 95 degrees with high humidity. Although
the weather made for a slick track this weekend, Kinetic
clients, Craig Foster, Michael Cawley, Fred Wicks and Paul
and Kin Gutowski made it out to Barber for a weekend of
racing.
Cawley's Porsche GT3 RS Porsche had an incredible weekend
finishing first in every event having the fastest car in
Birmingham. The Kinetic supported car encountered a rear
main seal leak that was repaired resulting in the absence
from one practice session. Cawley went on to qualify first
finishing on top of the podium in the first race with a
20 second lead in the GTA class. In the second race he
qualified first again and was leading by 20 seconds when
track debris went underneath the car and cut a coolant
line taking him out of the race.
Foster who was behind the wheel of his Porsche 993 RSR
at Barber to saw some hot action after some smooth sailing.
Third fastest in practice and first in his GT2 class, Foster
came out of last turn during one of his practice runs spinning
into the wall resulting in substantial damage to the Porsche.
Adding to the incident was the fire that took place in
the car which was put out by Kinetic's Transport Drive
Dan Moore a 30 year retired fire captain. Sprinting over
to the scene armed with a large fire extinguisher, Moore
hopped the guard rail and diffused the fire in record time.
The incident finished Foster's weekend.
"I was having a fantastic weekend with Kinetic," said Foster. "With
Bob setting up the car we found a ½ second of speed per lap with some
shock adjustments. On the last session for grid qualifying I finished first
in class and fourth over all. I ended up taking a little bit too much heat
into Turn 15 and ended up in the wall. Other than that it was a great weekend.
It wasn't as big of a hit as I have had before but it sure took its toll on
the car. They guys really did a good job prepping the car but it just wasn't
to be this weekend.
Wicks piloted his Porsche 944 this weekend and suffered
a broken ball joint in practice. The effected parts which
were fab car control arms and racing type control arms
sent Crew Chief Bob Sanderson on a search for parts finally
finding a ball joint pin from a Porsche 944 fab car on
site which was for sale. As a result, Wick's Porsche 944
was repaired allowing him to continue with the weekend.
The newest clients of Kinetic Speed Shop in attendance
have been on board with the organization since the IMSA
event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. K. Gutowski's Porsche
993 RSR suffered from a gremlin at Barber that the team
focused on throughout the weekend. As a result, the car
was a bit behind the pace. The Porsche is now back at Kinetic
for a number of weeks so that engineers can fully correct
the issue. However, she did manage to record a second in
class finish in the first Yellow Sprint race and a first
in class finish in the second of the two Yellow Sprint
events. P. Gutowski finished fourth in class in the Yellow
